Sheen Lions coaches spoke with James Bayliss ahead of a new season at the South-West London club as trials soon begin to recruit new boys and enter them in the local Sunday leagues.
Ahead of another season of grassroots football, Sheen Lions coaches Trevor Hodge and James McGarth spoke with James Bayliss ahead of a new season at the South-West London club as trials soon begin to recruit new boys and enter them in the local Sunday leagues.
The club is entering its 34th year since it was founded, and the growth is continuing today, with more coaches and players than ever before.
Trevor, who’s been at the club for the last 7 years, spoke about his role as a coach with James and gave details behind the sort of thing he does, especially with the younger age groups: “I coach a number of different age groups. Mainly U8s through to U9s and 10s as well as the U13s.
“It just involves me really practicing and setting up a load of drills for the boys to do, putting into practice some manager’s strategies that they want the kids to do in preparation for the matched fixture that they have on the Sunday.”
Trevor also spoke about the fact that demands and expectations are different for the various age groups.
“For me these lot are on a journey. So you can kind of see them moving from point A to point B and it’s gradual. If we look at the things that they need for this specific age, it’s different to the needs of and U13 or an U14 so the practices are structured differently”, he said.
“Yeah they’re all on a journey and they’re all at different stages of that journey but eventually they get there in the end.”
James also spoke about the importance of giving these youngsters confidence when they join a Sunday-league team.
